The Riff Ridgel Crawfish Cookoff Benefit is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2015 in honor of Ronald Louis “Riff” Ridgel. Rooted in compassion and a strong sense of community, our organization is dedicated to supporting individuals and families who are facing the challenges of catastrophic illness or injury.
What began as an effort to assist a single family has grown into a cherished tradition within the community. Since its inception, the Cookoff has raised and distributed more than $200,000 to individuals in Tangipahoa Parish, providing meaningful support during life’s most difficult moments.
Each year, the annual Crawfish Cookoff brings together friends, families, volunteers, and sponsors for a day of music, food, fun, and giving back. More than just an event, it is a celebration of resilience, generosity, and the belief that when a community unites, no one must face hardship alone.
Ronald Louis “Riff” Ridgel
In 2010, at the age of 33, Riff Ridgel was injured in a tragic accident leaving him paralyzed from the neck down and on a ventilator. Riff maintained his ability to travel around his home using a sip and puff device on his wheelchair. He enjoyed spending time with his son, Tristin, and the first one to make him a great uncle, Sloane. With the care of family, after 15 years, he continued to amaze his medical staff by maintaining a stable healthy condition.
Riff’s courage, resilience, and spirit inspired the creation of the Riff Ridgel Crawfish Cookoff. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through the love, support, and hope this event brings to others in need. We honor his memory and the impact he made on our community.
